12 Disadvantages Of Dating A Programmer
Here are some disadvantages of having a programmer as a partner.
1. You have to sleep with gadgets too
Most of the time, you will see phones, Ipads, Macbook, tablets, laptops, or other stuff ending up in your bed every day. Not once you will wake up in the morning with a bed without gadgets. Some tech people are strict about not taking things in bed, but you might have to deal with that most of the time if you aren’t so lucky.
2. Get ready to eat breakfast or dinner alone
You can’t blame them for this. The pressure they go through every day from morning to night. They might end up at the table eating together. But don’t be too upset, if you see they are looking at their phone or computer while eating and totally forgot your existence.
And it’s so common to feel left alone out in that tech threesome. But guess what, You got a programmer partner.
3. Their lack of time for others can and will hurt relationships
Unless someone is a highly understanding person, it will always be an issue that your partner does not give you enough time. And if you are a spouse of a programmer, you have to know that they may not have a lot of romantic experience and don’t know about standard relationship conventions like communication or intimacy, etc., which obviously leads to hurt feelings.
In this case, just be honest about your desires and expectations, and tell them what you want without expecting them to do it themselves.
4. Get ready to spend the whole day without talking at all
There can be lots of days when you literally can not speak to your programmer partner because they would be busy thinking of some bug that they didn’t manage to solve.
It’s so common to daydream about programming in programmers. They can not help themselves with it.
5. Playing game is their favorite
Do I even need to write anything about it? They got this whole new level of playing games. Expectations are not examples, though.
If they are between 18 and 30, they may spend way too much time playing video games. If you aren’t into video games, you’ll probably feel resentful all the time.
Another alternative is to become a gamer yourself, which will make you doubly attractive to your boyfriend.
6. They are awkward in front of people
Most of them are often awkward in groups and around many people. Instead, they would stare at their screen and code or use their phone rather than engage with other people.
If you got an extrovert programmer partner, damn, you are sure lucky got you got the one of a kind piece.
7. Already married to their work
If you are married to a programmer or going to marry one, you have to accept that they are already married to their work, more precisely their computer. Sometimes you might even think that they are cheating on you with their phone.
But the positive side is that you know that their phone will be only the “third person” you have to worry about in the relationship, not any human.
8. They are stressed to the limit, and it is by design
If you are a doctor, you have to deal with patients like that; programmers are bound to get stressed to their saturation limit, it’s like a doctor-patient bond situation. This is how this profession works. So they deal with stress and depression a lot, and as a partner, you will have some of those side effects too.
9. They are owned by their bosses to whom they cannot say no
when some weirdo feature boss tells them to add, no matter what, they would nod their head and say, okay, I can do it. So get ready to have thousands of those lunches date canceling calls from your programmer partner. They just can not say ‘NO’ to any unexpected last-time work from the boss.
10. Their lifestyle is very unhealthy. In the long run, it can ruin some dreams
Because of their unhealthy lifestyle, like sitting on the butt all day even though they know the human body is not meant for sitting 8 hours without any break. And the junk foods they swallow without any natural protein or green, they suffer a lot with their later life. Not to mention the wrong posture.
So take care of your programmer partner and be their health mentor.
11. They are craving sound sleep and can get irritated for simple reasons
All they want is a good sleep after those long hectic days and nights. It’s not much to ask. You would be needed to give them lots of space to have a sound sleep and understand their situation.
They might even hear the sound of dropping a hair on the floor. Yes, I do!
12. They are dealing with office politics every day, which you are unaware of
Which office does not have this problem? But as a programmer, they often have to deal with bad codes and other issues including office politics and office management. Which will have an impact on your relation too.
